KUALA LUMPUR: Lembaga Tabung Haji today announced the Saudi Arabia Government’s directive to reduce the haj pilgrims' quota by 20 per cent to all countries.
In a statement, Tabung Haji said this was to cope with the prayer space limitations to make way for a mega expansion project of the Masjidil Haram.
Upon completion, the mosque, it said could cater to millions of future pilgrims.
Tabung Haji, however, said those who had received the offer letters to perform their pilgrimage would not be affected as they would continue to perform their haj.
However, those who have yet to respond to the offer letters have been advised to do so as soon as possible.
Tabung Haji said pilgrims should take the haj quota reduction positively and they should bear with the conditions imposed by the Saudi Arabia Government.
The mega project, it said, took about two to three years to be ready.
